LIEUTENANT GENERAL WILLIAM N GONZALES PA
LIEUTENANT GENERAL WILLIAM N GONZALES is currently the 76th The Inspector General, Armed Forces of the Philippines (TIG, AFP). He was appointed in the position in January 17, 2022.
He graduated in the Philippine Military Academy as member of PMA “MAKATAO” Class of 1989. He volunteered in the Army after graduation and was immediately deployed in Mindanao as platoon leader in 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army from 1989 to 1991.
He joined the First Scout Ranger Regiment in 1991 and held different command positions such as Commanding Officer of the 9th Scout Ranger Company from 1995 to 1997 in Cotabato and Maguindanao. He was the Battalion Commander of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion from 2011 to 2013 in Basilan province. He also Commanded the First Scout Ranger Regiment from 2017 to 2020 where he was responsible in neutralizing top Abu Sayyaf Group leaders and Foreign Terrorists in Sulu. He graduated from the Scout Ranger Course in 1992 and was among those who trained at the United States Ranger Course in Ft. Benning, Georgia where he graduated in 1993 with flying colors
Prior to his current position, he Commanded the 11th Infantry “ALAKDAN” Division and the Joint Task Force Sulu from 2020 to 2022 where he was awarded the prestigious PMAAAI CAVALIER AWARD CY 2021 for Command and Administration, the highest award given to PMA Alumni for his outstanding achievements in the destruction of the Abu Sayyaf Group in Sulu that pave the way for the island provinces relatively peaceful, secure and ready for development today.
He also served as Staff Officer of the United Nations Mission in Liberia, West Africa from 2004 to 2005. He was also designated as Commandant of the Army Officer Candidate School from 2013 to 2016. He was also assigned as Chief of Staff of the Western Mindanao Command, AFP in 2016. From 2016 to 2017, he was the Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training at Headquarters Philippine Army where he started the first bilateral trainings between the Philippine Army-Australian Defense Force and Philippine Army-Singapore Armed Forces in counter terrorism that were conducted in the Philippines, Australia and Singapore.
He is a graduate of several civilian and military schoolings both local and abroad such as the Senior Executive Course in National Security, Master Degree in Public Administration, Command and General Staff Course as honor graduate, Basic and Advance Officers Courses as honor graduate and United Nations Peacekeeping Courses in West Africa, Malaysia and Australia to name a few.
He is a recipient of the LAPU-LAPU KAMAGI AWARD from the President of the Philippines, Special Forces Badge (Honorary), Light Reaction Regiment Assaulter Badge (Honorary), and numerous military awards, decorations and commendations both from military and civilian organizations.
